Mexico's comeback secures World Baseball Classic semifinal spot

Friday's quarterfinals of the 2023 World Baseball Classic saw Puerto Rico and Mexico face off in a highly anticipated game at Miami's LoanDepot Park - the venue for the remainder of the tournament.

Puerto Rico starts strong with 4-0 lead but Mexico's 7th inning surge leads to 5-4 victory and a spot in the semifinals as Pool C champions.

On Monday at 7 p.m. ET on FS1, Mexico will make their first-ever appearance in the World Baseball Classic semifinals. Their opponent will be Japan, who secured their spot for the fifth consecutive time after defeating Italy in the quarterfinals as the Pool B champions.

The World Baseball Classic commenced on March 7th and will culminate with the championship game (Tuesday, 7 p.m. ET, FS1) in Florida on March 21st. From March 15th to 18th, quarterfinal matches will be held, followed by the semifinals on March 19th and 20th.
